"I have a battery and conversion kit that permits me to charge the FR-7x independent of the foot pedal charger.  In fact, this system permits charging without having to remove the battery plate, since I have used an appropriate size half-round file to make two semi-circular holes in the sides of the battery plate which accommodate the two cable openings required for the kit to be used fully.  Now I can travel by air with no worries about luggage weight restrictions.  Secondly, I have an FR-7x power supply which permits connecting to the mains for power.   This means that I can remove the rechargeable battery entirely and enjoy the reduced weight of the instrument.  Since I play seated and stationary for many performances, this is a nice option."

An "authorized" Roland repair center has had my FBC-7 foot controller for 3 weeks and they informed me this morning that Roland no longer makes parts for the unit. On The Roland V-Accordion Members Group - "I’ve used it every day for more than six months.  It works perfectly with no issues at all.  It is very well engineered!!  I purchased my kit from Joe when I met him at a convention.  The basic unit is called a “Portable NiMH Charger for FR-7/FR-7x V Accordion”.   You will also want the “Battery Jumper Kit” to facilitate charging without having to remove the battery cover.  With Joe’s instruction sheet with photos, you will find that making two small battery cover cut-outs for two cables is easy.  I used a half-round file for the cut-outs and my approach worked perfectly for me.  Now I can charge either of my two FR-7x Roland V-accordions very efficiently and never have to travel with the bulky Roland pedal set/charger and stiff power cable.  I am looking forward to getting Joe’s power source for the 7x as well, for I know that it will be superbly engineered when it becomes available.  Have a good rest of the week."

Neither of us has had a problem with this charger.  I would not consider using a third party charger unless I knew that it would actually work over a long period of time. On The Roland V-Accordion Members Group "I also purchased the battery charger from Joe Recchia. It works terrific.  I installed the wire jumper kit on my Roland FR-7X.  Now I am using your battery charger and I do not have to take out the  battery.  Your charger is terrific.  It is 10 times better than charging the battery with the Roland 19 pin cable. It is way more easier then charging the Roland with the bulky 19 pin cable."

On The Roland V-Accordion Members Group - "Chris, Why not purchase the JR Products charger kit for your FR-7x?  I did this and I no longer have to depend on the FBC-7 or the unwieldy power cable.  The charger system is small, completely reliable, and much handier to use than the pedal set charger.  The kit charger does not require removal of the battery compartment lid!  Very cool, IMHO."
